A quote I just read

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with
talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the
human race.

Calvin Coolidge

Well there you have it, like it or not.
I do.

Ah, what a perfect day it was.
Blue skies and temp not over 20C.

We enjoyed our breakfast in the garden.

It was also the day again that the City to Surf race was held.
The run is from the CBD of Sydney to Bondi Beach.
I would loved to participate but I think I should leave it to the younger ones.
In my time at high school I was not a bad long distance runner.
Even in my first year at high school I was one of the top long distance runners.

Now I just admire those runners.

Here a picture of a race run some years ago.
I heard that todays race was run with the highest number of participants ever.

Whooping cough, now?

Well, I must say, I did not think more things could go wrong.
First my dev. computer got tantrums and I had to re-install everything again.
If that was not good enough, my wife's laptop thought that it was all good fun and did the same thing after I installed a virus protection program.
Luckely I was able to fix both machines but it took awhile.

And guess what, yes, after I finished all that, the Whooping demon came along.
I got a bad double middle ear infection plus coughing my head off.
My wife got a bad, really bad cough and could not talk.
Because of my ear infection I could not hear.
All very strange how we could communicate.
After a dose of antibiotics etc. we are now well on the way to recovery.

But Whooping cough now?
I never thought that at our age we would get such a thing again.
That idea is incorrect as we found out.
Any one can get it at any time!

I have reached the point....

I have reached the point at which I am going to stop resurrecting my local
dev.computer.

There are a few things I did not re-install, maybe at a later date.
I know I lost a few bits and pieces or it might be that I do not look
properly if there is still something I can revive.
One thing is for sure that I will stop with and that is to have the scripts
I wrote again available for download at my public site.

2 things I am happy about

Yes, these are not the only things but they are things I wrote about.

The first thing is about ' It is a small world. '
I am very happy to say that I now did receive an email of Jielis, a friend I
lost contact with 55 years or more ago.

The second is about my HDD failure or whatever it was.
Slowly but surely I get it all back together.
There will be some items I lost and those will be very difficult to replace but I am still trying.
Have that computer almost running the way I want it apart from the missing items.

And this is it for today.

Greetings,

Partly successful

Today I checked my backups.
To my horror I discovered that my recovered files were only from early Dec.
2005

I was sure that I recovered all up to the date of my hard disk failure.
But it seems that the drive letters were also corrupted and what I thought
was my primary C Drive turned out to be my external backup drive.
And silly me, I relied on my good fortunes and did not backup daily.
Well, at least I have all the updated data to the early Dec 2005.
That includes all my changed scripts, my personal bookkeeping, updated
database for familytree/stamboom etc. etc.
Also lost most of my scripts I hade for people to download.

Never mind, slowly but surely I will manage to get it all back together
again.

Keep on smiling, at least we had a bit of rain today and that will alleviate
the drought in this area here.

Today a bit further---

Yea, today I am a bit further in my quest to get my dev. Computer up and
running again.
Not that I can start that 'rogue' drive, but I managed to get all my data of
that HDD.

I know I can reformat that drive and set-up Windows XP again but then I also
have to re-install all my additional programs. And that is something I don't
fancy doing!

Ah well, tomorrow is another day.

No success yet

Still struggling.
At present I am saving from my 'crooked' drive to a USB drive.

Guess what, according to my screen, it will take about 34 hours.
At present it has done 52%

There is still hope for me.

Success???

Today I took the 'knife' to my computer.
I swapped the hard drives , from slave to master and v.v.
I did this because I will keep on trying to preserve all my data etc.

I know that once I try to install Windows again, I might loose the lot.
Well the swap went OK and installing Windows XP got installed.
It installed not quite the way I expected it but I will try to sort that out
at a later date.
What I found out that my 'old drive C' had NO drive letter and can't be
accessed in the ordinary way.
Also, it was not possible to assign a drive letter.

However, I do have Symantec Ghost and that program is now transferring
files.
At present it tells me, "Time remaining 17:43:45".
So that might be running for the next day or so.

No more to tell at present so, till tomorrow if all goes well.

And another day again.

I hesitate to do something that I later will regret.
There is a lot of data on my HDD and I don't want to loose anything if | can
avoid it.
That is why I still have problems and another day is gone.

I am not a swearing man but I could become one!
